Some art

I haven't been posting much. To be honest I'm trying to not be online so much and between updating Facebook with art and then posting it here... well... I'm leaving this blog out of the loop.

But... here's a little something I'm pleased with! I created this over a few days at a local restaurant here in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The people who work there (and own the restaurant) loved watching me create this piece.

Lamy Fountain Pen and ink - the water condensation off my iced coffee as water - and other inks in tiny squirt bottles mixed with water for added colour.

This entire piece has a silver sheen to it... it's gorgeous in person.

Tangle Me This! Sketchbook

Jenni Legate was worried about what she was going to do on the first page of her new Tangle Me This! Sketchbook. I'd say she definitely made a lovely choice! What a gorgeous piece - I can't wait to see what she creates on page two!

Lots of Art

I've been taking online art classes with Sketchbook Skool (I won't post a link cause they are updating the site so it's better for you to google it - it'll hopefully take you to the next site instead of the old one).

Anyway...

I'm loving these classes... Here's some art I've created recently:

CanTangle 2017

IF you are a CZT or you will become one before July 2017... consider signing up for this event.

This is the BEST value for you dollar.

It's held in Canada... great for Canadians but also really great for Americans since the exhange rate is in your favour.

Here's a link to the blog: https://cantangle.blogspot.ca

I made so many great friends at this event and was one of the many people who really wanted another CanTangle... I attended the first one in 2015... but unfortunately I won't be able to attend this next one. But I'm hoping to be at the one after that!

So... if you can... attend CanTangle 2017!

Again that blog posting is at https://cantangle.blogspot.ca/ and your coordinator for the event is Lisa Heron.

Lesson One of my new Art Class

This page is approx. 11" x 8.5" - landscape.

I started with a gold watercolour over the entire piece. When it was dry I added a mix of silver and purple acrylic paint.

Then... I drew with a .5 Copic Multiliner.

This is my pencil wrap (one of many) that holds my Faber-Castell coloured pencils. It was sitting on my bed.

My bed cover has a mandala on it... many mandalas actually. --- I used my new Lamy EF Fountain Pen with purple ink which is truly lovely to write with.

This is the first thing I've ever drawn that was supposed to look like something. My next assignment in my art class is to draw every day for a week. *gulp*... here goes!

Just a tangle...

I created this piece over the past couple of days. The paper was gifted to me by the lovely Debbie E. New CZT and because it's quite thin I wasn't sure what to do with it.

Well... one thing lead to another and... VOILA... a gorgeous shimmery piece. The shimmer is all Debbie. It was on the paper when it arrived.

I did this group of images to try to show off the shimmer.

I used pastels, coloured copic multiliners and gel pens in this piece.

Pastels

I've had some Derwent Pastel Pencils for awhile now but I've been a bit afraid to use them. Pastels are very messy... very... so messy that you have to use a spray over them to keep them from smudging.

I really dislike using sprays. I don't like the way they smell and I really dislike the way they make the page look and feel afterwards.

So I thought I'd give them a try and I did a few things.

I used a blending stump with them to make them more attached to the paper.

I used a Derwent Blending Pen at the end to make them smudge proof.

So pleased that I played with these because honestly it made my gems in a matter of minutes instead of about 30 minutes for each gem!

So here you go... a pic of the gems... completed with the use of a blending stump:

Now I added the Derwent Blending Pens:

And here's a pic of before the DBP and then close ups of the after using the DBP:

And finally... this was just a little test I did to see if it would work: (the first image is with the DBP and the second image is before using the DBP)

Hope this helps inspire you to try it!

Chiang Mai Zentangle Group of Expats

Oh we had a lovely lunch at Corner Bistro (thanks Kevin for accommodating us). Then we spent some time tangling.

Debbie New was kind enough to send me some stuff (a lovely care package filled with gifts for me - she's too sweet for words!) and I happily shared some of them with my Zentangle friends here.

Once I get my two tiles finished... I'll add a photo of them here.

Here they are!

Happy Birthday (art)

I made this over the past few days. I plan to post it on my friend's Facebook page whenever one of them has a birth day.

Feel free to share and use it as you desire.

Inspired by my son Josh and my study of the Gita

This was a challenge piece for me. The tiny lines repeated are out of my usual style. (tangle Florz)

I also did something different colour wise. (Mixing).

I wanted all the purples in the same colour tones/family. So I started with one purple and just added a tiny bit more blue and/or white to it to change it throughout the piece. I didn't know how it would turn out but I'm really happy with the finished result.

I drew this during my meditation class (we are studying the Bhagavad Gita) and while listening to my talented son Josh playing the guitar via a Facebook call (I'm in Thailand and he's in Canada).

They were both such huge inspiration for this piece. 💙💙💙

CZT Tangle Swaps with Debbie E New and Yvonne Westover

I was able to do some more tangling today.

First I worked on Yvonne Westover CZT's tile. This is what she sent me:

I worked on this one for two days... tangled and added colour yesterday (InkTense blocks and Koi Watercolours) and then today I did some more tangling and more Koi Watercolours.

I feel like this is a garden of love and all the little neurons are there experiencing love and blossoming it.

Then I worked some more on this tile from Debbie E New CZT (Tangled Pursuits). This is what she sent me:

I felt really drawn to the pink square and wanted to do something in that would pop. What I started to draw and what ended up on the page is completely different (love it when that happens cause I know I'm going with the flow...)

I've been taking a course with Sketchbook Skool (they call them kourses and klasses). Hand lettering is the klass and I took the opportunity to add some lettering to this piece.

Tangle Swaps with Raye Burnett and Sonia Simone

First off... here's the tiles as they arrived to me last week:

Today I decided to work on them. I'll start with what I did with the tiles that Raye Burnett sent me.

I absolutely LOVE the way she did the background colour. I have to find out her technique cause it's just so gorgeous!

I wanted as much of those gorgeous backgrounds to show through as possible so I tried not to hide them and I let her lead (since she started the tiles) I tried to follow where I felt the tile should go from there.

In this first one I loved the ovals she began with the band... so I added a band and then started tangling in lines. On the other side I mirrored her ovals and then added some Mooka which ended up looking (to me) like olives that had sprouted LOL

In this next tile the swirl was the starting point of her drawing... so I decided to continue with it and draw in my lace pattern that I love so much and then a few Ah (that's the tangles name).

Earlier I did some work on Sonia Simone's tiles that she sent me. I loved the colour in these ones as well and wanted to play with the colour without hiding it.

This second Bijou tile (2"x2") was just so cute... and so I decided to add some glitter! I grabbed my gel pens and went through them finding the ones with glitter and then picked a few to create this lovely glittery background. I also added some glitter to her tangle so it all flowed nicely.

I love doing swaps with people. It allows me to focus on their style or their starting tiles and work within those limitations. ;)

Fun with Colour

Yesterday I met a friend for lunch and then we came back to my condo, here in Chiang Mai, Thailand and I was playing around with some different tools I have to create colour (mostly Derwent products).

She had a blast working with inks as watercolours while I played with some InkTense colour blocks (among other things).

Tangle Swap with Jim

This is a tangle swap I did with Jim from Australia. I invited some people over to my place to tangle for a few hours and we all swapped tiles at the end to finish each other's work.

I did the original orange inking (I made enough for everyone to get a few) then he started tangling it (lower left) and then I tangled and finished with InkTense.

I love it when someone else can inspire us. I started by inspiring him with the ink... then he inspired me...

What a gift!

Do any of you swap with friends?

hugs,
Aleesha

Tangled Poetry

The poetry reads "See love, beautful love. Haste doesn't matter. What matters is to love."

Swaps

I've been creating a lot of swap pieces lately. This means that I complete part of the piece and then send it somewhere - anywhere in the world - to another tangler who completes the piece.

Here's what I've been working on lately:

CZT Tangles - Swap

We have a little exchange going on within the CZT community.

Many people create new tangles. So we are tangling each others designs and then sending them to our partner for them to complete the tile.

I had the pleasure of doing all of Debbie E New's tangles - you can see them on this page and then click on the tab "Tangles"

Here's my half of the tiles:

Tangled Poetry

I am a huge fan of this kind of art... so I bought a book on love... and am tangling my way through it.

Here's the first page. Some of the little sprouts with circles around them were on the page... so I added more to them.

Poetry reads: "Every need love. Love"

I'll be doing a lot more of this...

Tangled Art I've completed lately

I haven't made it on to post but... I've done a lot of art in the past couple of days. Here's some pics.

Used Ink to create watercolour 4x6 and 5x7 tiles

A tangle swap from Miriam Kessler

Keeping this one. I love the way the ink watercolour turned out.

This is Parz's fav... so I'm keeping it too.
