Meditation... aaauuuuuummmmmmmm

I made this one as a tribute to the Meditation Teacher's Training I recently completed.

I love taking my practice to a new level and to be certified to teach others is a lovely gift I can bring to the table in my Zentangle® classes.

Here's the tangle I drew... in my Tangle Me This! Sketchbook on purple paper.

I shaded it with my Graphitints... which I enjoyed but my blender wasn't cooperating well... ...I love it!

Tangle Me This! Sketchbook Video

As you know I'm back from Thailand and Vietnam (with a brief layover in the airport in Taipei) and I've made a video of the tangles I did in my Tangle Me This! Sketchbook while I was gone.

I used the Sketchbook as a journal of my experience. Often writing on the slip sheets that are in between each of the Etrusca pages and sometimes writing on the tangled pages themselves.

I loved working with watercolours and really had a great time exploring what I could do with them. Sometimes what I did with the watercolours was a real challenge when it came to tangling over them, but I think each of the pages turned out really great.

I love that I could enhance the outline of the tiles with graphite, or I could allow them to fade in to the image. That's the reason I make the outlines so soft and broken up - I don't want them to define the image but rather to simply give you a starting off point.

Each Tangle Me This! Sketchbook has approx. 50 standard Zentangle® size tiles 3.5" x 3.5" and approx. 100 Bijou® size tiles. 2" x 2" and the larger-sized version has approx. 50-75 standard Zentangle® size tiles 3.5" x 3.5" and approx. 100-150 Bijou® size tiles. 2" x 2"

Please visit here and here for more info... and HERE to order one for yourself.

So without further rambling from me... here's the video!

A little something I'm working on...

This is a little ensemble piece I'm working on. I am going to be affixing it to a canvas...

But here it is so far.

I took this ensemble with me to Thailand and worked on it there.

This is the ensemble string

I chose to watercolour it

Then I began the process of tangling

and I continued to tangle

Until it was complete!

Basics Class - Phu Quoc Vietnam

We just returned from our adventure in Thailand and Vietnam. While we were in Vietnam we visited an Eco Resort on the island of Phu Quoc.

While we were there I taught an impromptu Basics class. Parz and I looked through our supplies and found a few tiles, microns, pencils and tortillions and VOILA a class was born!

The next day they were both tangling up a storm so I taught them some more tangles! They are hooked!

Quilter demo class

I did my first class where I attempted to hold a microphone in one hand, draw tangles in the other and with my other hand turn my page... oh wait... I only had two hands... LOL Trust me... it was a challenge but I do so love a challenge!

I had the pleasure of teaching a group of very talented quilters tonight and I loved every minute of it.

Here's their gorgeous mosaic!

Tangle Me This! Sketchbook

My first Tangle Me This! Sketchbook went to it's new owner today (yes I'm talking like I've adopted one out... these sketchbooks feel like my babies).

She immediately went home and tangled!

created by Meredith Hutton in a blue sketchbook
And today I finally had time to properly create a piece! This is the same paper that is in the sketchbooks.

If you are interested in a Tangle Me This! Sketchbook there's still time to place an order. I'll be shipping on Thursday and then I won't be accepting orders until I'm back from my vacation (Jan 2016).

Basics Zentangle Class 11-08-15

Today I taught a Basics Zentangle® Class to an amazing group of women. We had the pleasure of having a lovely pit bull named Moxie with us. She was a little overwhelmed with all of us at first but she settled beautifully. I loved having her energy with us.

We did two tiles... but two of the students had to leave a bit early - so I have three mosaics to share with you.

Everyone did a great job and I loved that one of the students had taken a class with me a month ago and wasn't fond of the process but she came back today and now she's loving it! I love watching people experience Zentangle and find their inner artist!

This is the last class I'll be teaching this year. I have a demo with 45 quilters on Thursday night (I'll post the mosaic from that class) - and then I'm on vacation until January!

Advaita Vedanta Meditation Instructor

Today I took my final exam to complete my year long course to become a Certified Advaita Vedanta Meditation Instructor and... I passed with flying colours!

I'm extremely blissed out right now... walking on sunshine!

Tomorrow Parz takes his final exam (and I know he'll pass with flying colours as well) and then we'll be ready to teach students!

So happy, bliss-filled and excited to continue on this path.

Thankfully our instructor, Sampriya is going to teach an advanced course starting in April and we are both already signed up!

I love growing!!!

Our monthly meditation group/class will resume in January. It's a free class for anyone who wants to come. We are up at SFU in Burnaby BC. Email me for details.

If you are interested in studying with Sampriya at Essence of the Himalayas ... please follow this link for details:

EDITED TO ADD: Parz took his exam and did a really great job! He is now a Certified Advaita Vedanta Meditation Instructor!!! This is the Zentangle I drew for him while he was doing it. He had a spiritual awakening during the exam experience... it was beautiful... and here's what I drew.

Basics Zentangle Class 11-1-15

Today I had the pleasure to teach a group of really talented artists the zen of Zentangle. It was a really great class.

And... it was my 26th class. Not bad at all since I've been a CZT for 6 months now.

I have a couple of more classes and then I'm off until the new year. I sure do love teaching!!!

Treasure Trove - Kelly Barone

Today I got a gorgeous package in the post.

Kelly Barone has created a new product which, I think, is a great idea. It's a box of Tangle items that is delivered to your home on a monthly basis.

Check it out here:

Here are some pics from this lovely Treasure Trove.

Of course, Shanti and Prakriti had to help me unpack - they really wanted the box!

Loved this adhesive colouring paper! and the pen she sent as well

This is so cute. A doily with bats on it. I did the tangles...

Got a bunch of Bijou tiles and a new tangle! So I did the tangle and then put it in the little fridge magnet frame!

There was many more special items... a message in a bottle, a Zendala holder, Zentangle pencil and a brown 'milk carton' that I'll tangle later and show you all.
Really wonderful gift - think about it - you could have her send out your Christmas presents for you!

Order one today!

NEW Tangle Me This Sketchbook

This is one option on how to use this sketchbook.

It's finally here! The project I've been working on for a few months is ready to be unveiled.

I have created a sketchbook... called Tangle Me This! Sketchbook. Each book has approx. 25 pages (there may be one more or less due to human error while counting the pages as this paper is very difficult to hand count and due to the nature of the paper it had to be hand counted). On each page there are three tiles: one regular sized tile 3.5" x 3.5" and two Bijou® tiles 2"x2". The front and back of each page has been hand-stamped using acrylic paint and stamps that I crafted myself.

These are special edition sketchbooks. In the next 'batch' the pages will not be hand-stamped they will be printed instead.

The lovely thing about this sketchbook is how organic it is. Every page is unique with deckle edges. The soft colours allow you just fall in to the page. The books come in a choice of seven colours: sky blue, mint green,  honey yellow, blush pink, lavender, butter cream, and nutmeg.

sky blue, mint green,  honey yellow, blush pink, lavender, butter cream, and nutmeg

In between every page is a blank grey page. The purpose of this page is to reduce smudging from your shading but, if you want to use this sketchbook as a journal you can write a few words describing your feelings while you were drawing. This journal is perfect for anyone who wants a little more privacy while still releasing their feelings from their day. Simply draw your tangles and then write a few words. If anyone else sees your journal only you will know what it means. Everyone else will simply see some gorgeous art!

You can also use this sketchbook as a daily exercise - creating a regular-sized tile in the morning or before bed and creating each of the two smaller tiles during the day. You can use the grey pages to create step-outs of your tangles so you remember how to do them later.

However you choose to use it this book is 7" x 4.5" so it fits nicely in your purse, pocket, glove compartment of your car... etc and it keeps all of your art in one lovely book.

There are approx. 50 regular sized tiles and 100 Bijou® tiles in every book.

The paper we used is gorgeous soft Etrusca paper. You can use markers on it, watercolours, ink, graphite - but always be sure to test out your medium before using it so you don't end up bleeding or leaking through. On all of my tests, nothing ever leaked through.

There are approx. 50 regular sized tiles and 100 Bijou® tiles in every book.

7" x 4.5"

There are limited amounts of each colour available. Every sketchbook is one colour. $39 CAD each plus tax and shipping.

Please visit to purchase.

Tangle Me This!

UPDATE: The process of hand stamping each page for these Special Edition Sketchbooks has begun. It's very time consuming to apply the acrylic paint with a little brush on to each stamp and then wait for it to dry before doing another page but I believe the end result will be unique and very organic. Here's a photo to give a view in to my world...

Every page is stamped differently... so you can use the stamped area as a string on some pages!

This paper is simply gorgeous... not only to look at but to work with!
Used charcoals and gel pens with this one.

Renaissance Love

I am having such a good time doing these Renaissance Tiles. I love working with the brown paper.

Here's today's zen:

I have a class teaching you how to work on this tile... and giving you a bunch of new pens (and tangles) on the 31st of October - if you've taken a Basics Class you can come to this one!

A Zentangle becomes a wall hanging!

A student of mine - who was four years old when she took my Basics class with her Mom - has a very talented Grandmother.

Her Grandma is a wonderful fabric artist and a friend of hers took this little girls tile from her class (she made a lot of tiles in the class but she chose one) and turned it into a wall hanging for a competition.

Then on her fifth birth day... they gifted her the wall hanging!

Here are her original tiles from the class: click here to see the entire class mosaics and read about the class.

and here's her wall hanging!

Ahhhhh the wonderful things you can do with tangles!

BodyTalk Zentangle Homework!

I had a BodyTalk session the other day and my homework from the session was to tangle my pancreas, bronchi of the right lung and my claustrum (brain).

So... here's my finished project.

I'm very pleased with how it turned out!

I began by drawing in my string in the shape of the body parts needed... and then... I allowed my flow to happen. Not planning anything out, just allowing it to take form.

Another really great class

I bet you are getting bored... hearing me say class after class... "Wow, what a great class" but I have to be honest... they are all great classes! You see... I am blessed. I get to do what I love (which is teaching) and I get to be creative (via Zentangle) AND... I get paid to do it!!! How cool is that?

So... here are the gorgeous mosaics from today's Basics Zentangle Class.

Black Tile Zentangle Class

Today I taught a Black Tile Zentangle® Class. It was my first opportunity to teach a black tile class and we all had a great time. It's so much different than a white tile and black pens!

So... here are our mosaics!!!

We started off playing with Mooka and getting used to the new tools.

Then we jumped in and created some gorgeous tiles!

And then we all expressed ourselves - either using our favourite tangles, or learning my 'signature' tangles.

Didn't everyone create some gorgeous tiles?

If you are interested in a class... please contact me

Happy Tangling,
